About Gedeo Coffee

Yirgacheffe, found in Southern Ethiopia’s Gedeo Zone, is celebrated for its coffee. The region’s high elevation, fertile soils, and climate create an environment ideal for coffee cultivation, producing beans with nuanced taste characteristics rarely found elsewhere.  This region has risen to prominence in specialty coffee circles, with its delicate floral aromas, bright citrusy acidity, and complex flavor profiles, often featuring notes of jasmine, bergamot, and stone fruit, attracting roasters and enthusiasts from around the world.

Furthermore, coffee represents a foundation of Gedeo culture and economy. Generations of coffee farmers meticulously tend their coffee farms, employing a mix of traditional and improved cultivation and processing methods that contribute to the regions unique coffee profiles.  This deep connection between people and land sustains local livelihoods, preserves traditions, and safeguards the ecological health of the region’s lush highlands. As global demand for Yirgacheffe’s distinctive coffee continues to grow, its farmers remain stewards of a crop that both anchors their communities and enchants coffee lovers everywhere.
